What the air quality number means indoors.

The reading on our homepage describes the air outside, over a whole city. Most people in the UAE spend the day inside, breathing air that has been through a duct.

This page explains what the published bands mean, where the figure comes from, and what part of it a cleaning company can and cannot do anything about.

Where the number comes from

It is not ours, and that matters.

The figure on our homepage is published by the World Air Quality Index Project, which aggregates readings from public monitoring stations. We reproduce it and link to the source so you can check it against us.

It is an outdoor reading for a city, not a measurement of your home. Nobody can tell you what the air in your rooms is doing without going in and looking. That is what an inspection is for, and it is why our report is photographs rather than a score.

0 – 50 · Good

  • ·Uncommon in Dubai outside the cooler months

51 – 100 · Moderate

  • ·Acceptable, with a note for people who are unusually sensitive
  • ·The band a Dubai day most often sits in

101 – 150 · Unhealthy for sensitive groups

  • ·The published guidance names children, older adults and people with asthma
  • ·Common here during dust and in high summer

151 and above

  • ·The bands continue upward through Unhealthy and Very Unhealthy
  • ·In the UAE this is usually a dust event rather than a trend

What a duct has to do with it

A system that has never been opened has been collecting since the day it was fitted.

Dust drawn in from outside settles on the blower wheel, in the drainage tray and along the duct wall. It does not leave on its own, and a filter stops holding it long before anyone notices.

We are not doctors and we will not tell you what any of that does to anyone's health. What we will do is open the system, photograph what is actually inside it, and give you the report. There is no obligation attached to looking.

Common questions

Asked about indoor air.

Does the number on your homepage describe my home?

No. It is an outdoor reading for the city, published by a third party. Your rooms depend on your building, your system and when it was last opened.

Can you measure the air inside my home?

An air-quality reading is included in the Deep Clean+ package. It is a reading at a moment, taken in one room, and we will tell you that when we hand it over rather than after.

How often should ducts be cleaned?

It depends on the property, how many people live in it, and whether anyone has done it before. An inspection answers it for your home; a guess in an article does not.

Does cleaning the ducts change the outdoor number?

No. The outdoor figure is weather and traffic and dust. What we work on is the system between that air and your rooms.
