How to choose an AC duct cleaning company in Dubai

Six questions. Ask them of anyone, including us — the answers are easy to give and hard to fake, which is the point.

There is no register you can look someone up in and no grade on the door. What there is: a set of questions where a straight answer takes a second and an evasive one is obvious.

The six questions

Every one of them is answerable on the phone.

Do you photograph the job? Is the quote fixed before you start? Are the technicians employed or subcontracted? What happens if I am not satisfied? Do you clean the coil and the drainage tray or only the visible grilles? And can I have a written report?

The last one does most of the work. A company that photographs its jobs has to open the parts it says it opens, because the photograph shows whether it did.

Ask: do you photograph it?

  • ·Before and after, the same surfaces
  • ·A report you keep
  • ·Nothing to check afterwards without it

Ask: is the quote fixed?

  • ·Agreed before the work starts
  • ·Unchanged when it finishes
  • ·Extras named in advance or not at all

Ask: whose staff are they?

  • ·Employed, or subcontracted per job
  • ·Uniformed and named on the report
  • ·This decides who is accountable

Ask: what is actually cleaned?

  • ·Grilles, ducts, coil, drainage tray
  • ·Or only what can be reached from the room
  • ·Ask which, and ask to see it

What a permit does and does not tell you

It is worth asking about, and it is not the whole answer.

Water tank cleaning in Dubai is carried out under a Dubai Municipality permit, and any company doing that work should be able to tell you it holds one. Duct cleaning is carried out under a commercial licence.

A credential answers who is allowed to do the work. It does not answer whether they opened the tray. That is what the photographs are for.

Common questions

Asked while choosing.

Two quotes for the same flat came back far apart. Why?

Almost always because they cover different work. Ask each company how many vents it has counted, whether the air handling unit is included, and whether the figure can change once someone is inside the property. Two numbers only become comparable once you know what each one buys.

Why is a price published as a range rather than one figure?

Because the work follows the property. A one-bedroom apartment and a four-bedroom villa are not the same job, and two villas of the same size can have very different duct runs. The published figure is where that service starts; the figure you are asked to approve is agreed before anyone begins.

How do I know the work was actually done?

Ask for the report before you book, not after. If a company photographs its jobs, it will have one to show you.

Do you subcontract?

No. Every technician on site is our own employee, uniformed, and named on the report.
